PELICAN

Wise old pelican
bunched on a stump
watching and waiting
ready to jump.

Huge old bill
big deep pouch
sits there sleeping--
mean old grouch.

Hunger gnaws
fisherman baiting
pelican turns
tired of waiting.

Fish leaps up--
gone in a flash
pelican swallows
makes a big splash.

Wings outspread
back to the stump
to watch and wait
ready to jump.

Fish is gone
pelican winks--
Nobody knows
what he thinks.
