Imagine--John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Tour Daufuskie

By Terrance Hayes

In that small coastal town
in the last century
during one of its tropical storms

people tied to the necks
of pine trees drowned

when the wires and whips
and webs and ropes of
rain covered their bodies

so that when our small golf cart crept
along the dirt back roads

and we paused to
photo the AME church
and one room schoolhouse
and small shacks of
the black folk of Daufuskie

no voices trailed us
or floated out to greet us.

Sometimes now
the trunk of a tree
resembles the waist
or a black body;

sometimes your naked waist
still and rooted before me,
smells thick and sweet
as the freshly cut meat of a pine.

Woman, Woman, Woman, when I knock
against you, it is like swimming
from the world

out to the small island of Daufuskie
in the witching hour of a storm,
like drowning in the arms of a tree.

blessings

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

thanksgiving - ralph waldo emerson - 1803-1882

For food that stays our hunger,
For rest that brings us ease,
For homes where memories linger,
We give our thanks for these.

traditional - mealtime blessing

Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.

child's mealtime blessing

O Thou,
Sustainer of our body, heart, and soul.
Bless all we receive
In thankfulness.
Amen

DeFund the Iraq War

The American Friends Service Committee is calling for Congress to bring the U.S. Troops home from Iraq and to take care of their needs upon return. Congress can stop the war by refusing to fund it.

Taxpayers have already spent more than $1 trillion for the first four years of the war. Every day that the war continues adds $720 million to that tally. This money should be spent in more effective and humane ways: aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Iraq, an eventual Iraqi-led repair and reconstruction, and funding vital needs -- such as health care, jobs, and education -- here in the United States.

While our government spent $1 trillion on a misguided war, Congress and the Administration have cut funding for vital services at home in the name of fiscal "restraint." Between 2002 and 2006, dozens of federal programs have been cut, including Head Start, the Community Food and Nutrition program, youth job training, affordable housing, and maternal and child health programs. The official number of people living in poverty in the U.S. gre from 34.6 to 37 million between 2002 and 2005, and 1.5 million people lost their health insurance. We need to make it clear: We want our tax dollars spent on critical human needs both here and in Iraq!

Cherokee Blessing

May the warm winds of Heaven
blow softly on your home,
And the Great Spirit bless all
who enter there.
May your moccasins make happy tracks
in many snows,
And may the rainbow always touch
your shoulder.

Beannacht - "Blessing"

ON THE DAY WHEN
THE WEIGHT DEADENS
ON YOUR SHOULDERS
AND YOU STUMBLE,
MAY THE CLAY DANCE
TO BALANCE YOU.

AND WHEN YOUR EYES
FREEZE BEHIND
THE GRAY WINDOW
AND THE GHOST OF LOSS
GETS IN TO YOU,
MAY A FLOCK OF COLORS,
INDIGO, RED, GREEN
AND AZURE BLUE
COME TO AWAKEN IN YOU
A MEADOW OF DELIGHT.

WHEN THE CANVAS FRAYS
IN THE CURACH OF THOUGHT
AND A STAIN OF OCEAN
BLACKENS BENEATH YOU,
MAY THERE COME ACROSS THE WATERS
A PATH OF YELLOW MOONLIGHT
TO BRING YOU SAFELY HOME.

MAY THE NOURISHMENT OF THE EARTH BE YOURS,
MAY THE CLARITY OF LIGHT BE YOURS,
MAY THE FLUENCY OF THE OCEAN BE YOURS,
MAY THE PROTECTION OF THE ANCESTORS BE YOURS,

AND SO MAY A SLOW
WIND WORK THESE WORDS
OF LOVE AROUND YOU,
AN INVISIBLE CLOAK
TO MIND YOUR LIFE.

Anyone Else But You

You're a part time lover and a full time friend
The monkey on you're back is the latest trend
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train
I kiss you all starry eyed, my body's swinging from side to side
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me
So why can't, you forgive me?
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I will find my nitch in your car
With my mp3 DVD rumple-packed guitar
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du

Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

You are always trying to keep it real
I'm in love with how you feel
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, I want more stage
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Don Quixote was a steel driving man
My name is Adam I'm your biggest fan
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Squinched up your face and did a dance
You shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du
But you

it's love

not much to say
but that's ok
don't have to talk
could go on a walk
it's being together
it's sharing our time
it's learning
and growing
and unspoken knowing
it's love
that fits like a glove
